like i put it in standard form then idk what to do. and idk what my teacher did either
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
he set the expression equal to 0 and then solved for x
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
why? because the x-intercepts happen when f(x) = 0
ie when y = 0
OpenStudy (superhelp101):
but how did he get rid of the negatives in the problem when he divided?
OpenStudy (superhelp101):
@jim_thompson5910

which step are you referring to?
OpenStudy (superhelp101):
the second step
OpenStudy (superhelp101):
sorry not divide square rooted!
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
well you can think of it as him adding (x-3)^2 to both sides
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
or subtracting 4 from both sides, then multiply both sides by -1
