how do I get the formula from this. The length of a rectangle is 3 times the width. The perimeter is 72 feet. find the dimensions of the rectangle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let x = width of a rectangle Length of rectange = 3x (as 3 times the width) 3x+x=72 4x = 72 x = 18 Therefore width of rectangle = 18 feet and Length = 3x = 3 x 18 = 54 feet

Thank you. so you just plug in the answer for x for the length.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since Length is 3x 3 * 18 = 54 which is the length
