9y^3+4=y+36y^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Rearrange to get 9y^3-36y^2-y+4 = 0 let f(y) = 9y^3-36y^2-y+4 Test some values and we get when y = 4, f(y) = 0 so therefore (y-4) is a factor of f(y) Then do synthetic division to get: (y-4)(9y^2-1) = (y-4)(3y-1)(3y+1) Therefore y = 4, -1/3, 1/3
