A remote-controlled car's velocity is graphed as a function of time as shown. On this graph, the vertical axis is divided into 2 m/s ticks and the horizontal axis is divided into 3 second ticks.
(b) At what time does the toy car return to its initial position? Explain your reasoning.
The car starts from 10m/s and gradually slows down until it reaches the x axis. Exactly on the x axis the car's speed is 0m/s Below the x axis the car begins going in reverse.
Because the acceleration is constant, it takes the car 12 seconds to stop, and 12 seconds to reverse back to the starting position. The toy car returns to its initial position at 24 seconds.
How do you know it goes back? This entire graph confuses me
Notice that the y axis is the indicator of velocity.
Right.
