How are proteins and nucleic acids related?

OpenStudy (tmak11):

nuclaic acids create protines

OpenStudy (aaronq):

nucleic acids are linear sequences of nucleotides - these sequences are "read" by molecular machines (ribosomes) in groups of 3 nucleotides (named a codon)- each codon "codes" for a certain amino acid. Ribosomes put together amino acids in the order determined by the sequences of the nucleic acids; the finished products are called proteins.
