How did the Renaissance influence modern day Architecture and how did humanism play a part?

If you look at many building including the National capital, they look alot like renaissance era building, and humanism played a part in the renaissance by allowing more philosophers, and creating a different outlook on the human race, by making it seem like we could be better people if we just let go of material items and selfishness,, much like the Asians had already discovered (Buddhism, Taoism), but you know...with European twists.
