Choose the correct description of the graph of the inequality −4x < 20. Open circle on 5, shading to the left. Closed circle on 5, shading to the left. Open circle on −5, shading to the right. Closed circle on −5, shading to the right. BEST ANSWER GETS MEDAL

http://www.mathpapa.com/algebra-calculator.html this web can show you all of the steps :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Divide both sides by -4. It's not equal to, so you will have an open circle. So you can eliminate B and D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it shading to the right or left?? :)

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

Solve for x by dividing both sides by -4 do not forget that if you divide an inequality by a negative, the inequality sign changes. Learn this .. if your problem has an equal sign, it is a closed circle no equal sign means open circles if it is less then (<) shading goes to the left if it is greater then (>) shading goes to the right now lets see what you can do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and it's less than so to the left as well

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

try again...if you divide by a negative, the inequality sign changes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah. So greater than and it goes to the right

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

yep.. -4x < 20 -- divide both sides by -4 (and change your sign) x > -5 greater ...shading goes to the right and since there is no equal sign, open circles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oohh thank you so much math is really hard for me especially since i have finals in 3 days!!

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I wish you the best of luck...you can do it :)
