Why is it better to wear snowshoes than regular shoes in deep snow and use the concept of physics?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Snow shoes have a bigger surface area than regular shoes. Therefore, when stepping in deep snow, the larger surface area allows for a more even distribution of your body weight over the snow.

So then would u be using less or more pressure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You would be exerting less pressure (measured in PSI, or pounds per square inch). The snow shoe, with a bigger surface area, would distribute the pressure more evenly across the snow - therefore with less pressure (per square inch)!

Thank you so much! I'll be sure to ask more questions if I need to, if that's ok with you. Again thanks much! @brownc85
