The water potential of a plant tissue can be determined by the following principle. If the tissue shows no net gain or loss of water when immersed in a solution of known molarity, its water potential is equal to that of the external solution. Samples of the tissue are allowed to come to equilibrium in a range of solutions of different concentrations. When the tissue shows neither an increase nor a decrease in mass or length, the water potential of the potato tissue is the same as that of the external solution. What is the dependent and independent variable?

OpenStudy (perl):

usually the independent variable is the variable that we can change. like in a plant experiment at home we can manipulate how water a plant gets. so here amount of water a plant gets is the independent variable. the dependent variable could be height of the plant.

OpenStudy (perl):

how much*

OpenStudy (perl):

usually the independent variable is the variable that we can change. for example, suppose we did an experiment on plants, we want to see how plant growth is affected by water. So here we can manipulate how much water a plant gets. the dependent variable could be height of the plant. and we would do the experiment on many plants so as to eliminate chance factors

OpenStudy (perl):

so in your example the independent variable are the different solutions you immerse the tissue in. the dependent variable is the water potential
