OpenStudy (cj49):

wats the ques

OpenStudy (igreen):

Sure, I can help you.

OpenStudy (uchezzy):

what do u need help with

OpenStudy (igreen):

@Blu-Girl

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks, ok, I'll post them in a sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hold on it'll be a moment b4 I post the questions... Ill just tag y'all when i'm ready

OpenStudy (uchezzy):

alright

OpenStudy (igreen):

Okay, just remember: Mean is the average. You add all the numbers and divide by how many numbers there are. Median is the middle value. You list the numbers in order of least to greatest, and find the middle value. Mode is the number that is repeated the most. Find the number that's repeated the most.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Median can be a little confusing. If you have an odd number of values, it's easy to spot the middle term: 1, 5, 6, 9, 11 \(\color{lime}{1, 5, } \color{red}{ 6,} \color{blue}{ 9, 11}\) The middle value is 6, so the median is 6. However if you have an even number of values, it's a bit different: 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9 \(\color{lime}{2, 3,} \color{red}{ 5, 6,} \color{blue}{7, 9} \) There seems to be 2 middle numbers. You have to find the mean of these two numbers to find the real median. 5 + 6 = 11 11 / 2 = 5.5 So the median is 5.5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!

OpenStudy (igreen):

No problem.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Mean: 2, 5, 7, 10, 14, 15, 18 Add all the terms: 2 + 5 + 7 + 10 + 14 + 15 + 18 = 71 There are 7 numbers total. Divide: 71 / 7 = 10.14 So the mean is approximately 10.14.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean, I'm actually not bad at those basic problems, it's just when it's being put into a word problem. Sometimes it confuses me, for example: In store A the price of mayo went down from $3.43 to $1.24. In store B, it went from $8.38 to $8.07. In store C it went from $8.82 to $2.32. What was the average decrease?

OpenStudy (igreen):

Mode: 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 9, 9, 10, 14, 15 Here, you can see that 6 is repeated the most. There can be two modes. If you didn't have those 6's: 5, 5, 9, 9, 10, 14, 15 Then the mode would be 5 AND 9.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Mean is the average, so you will be finding the mean.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I know which #'s to use to find the average

OpenStudy (igreen):

It says to find the average decrease..so find all the decreases: Store A: $3.43 - $1.24 = $2.19 Store B: $8.38 - $8.07 = $0.31 Store C: $8.82 - $2.32 = $6.50 Add these terms: 2.19 + 0.31 + 6.50 = 9. There are three terms. Divide: 9 / 3 = 3. So the average decrease is 3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you... ok, so that's where I messed up before I didn't subtract the terms first thank you so much!

OpenStudy (igreen):

No problem!

OpenStudy (igreen):

You just have to read the question carefully.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Tag me if you need anymore help.

ok
