The best way to handle problems like these are usually to write a simple/small closed web API and let it handle all database manipulation. This way you can easily access the data fom all applications you write; if you are doing cross platform for example.  

You can also connect to the dabase directly from the app over the internet using some database driver, but this is not recommended.
