Finding next term in sequence...please help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (phi):

if you divide a number by the one before it, what do you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-8 @phi

OpenStudy (phi):

and if you multiply a number by -8, see if you get the next number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-256 Thank you!! Would you know of how to begin this problem by the way..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Recursive rule I think... each multiplied by 1/5?

OpenStudy (phi):

It's the same type of problem. You can "brute force" it. you have the first four terms, so you need four more to find the eighth. There is a formula you can use, but of course you have to memorize it, then remember how to use it.

OpenStudy (phi):

here are the formulas (though you probably have them in your notes?) http://www.regentsprep.org/Regents/math/algtrig/ATP2/GeoSeq.htm

@phi Yes thank you!
