Help please Solve for x: 4 − (x + 2) < −3(x + 4) x < −7 x > −7 x < −9 x > −9 Solve for x: −2x − 4 > 8 x < −6 x > −6 x < −2 x > −2

OpenStudy (lieutenantgeneral):

1.) x < -7 2.) x < -6

Can you explain how you got the answers please?

OpenStudy (lieutenantgeneral):

www.wolframalpha.com and a pen and paper

OpenStudy (lieutenantgeneral):

wolframalpha tell u what x equals and you'll see if -2 is greater or not

Oh okay thanks

OpenStudy (lieutenantgeneral):

u welcome

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

4 - (x + 2) < -3 (x + 4) --- distribute through the parenthesis 4 - x - 2 < -3x - 12 -- combine terms 2 - x < -3x - 12 -- add 3x to both sides 2 - x + 3x < -12 -- subtract 2 from both sides -x + 3x < -12 - 2 -- combine like terms 2x < -14 -- divide both sides by 2 x < -7 ==================== -2x - 4 > 8 -- add 4 to both sides -2x > 8 + 4 -2x > 12 -- divide both sides by -2, but remember that in an inequality dividing/multiplying by a negative number changes the sign. x < -6
