Most related = least differences (assuming this chart is comparison between the differences of nucleotides in a conserved sequence) Because the more changes in nucleotides (e.g. through mutations) related to when two organisms diverged from a common ancestor. For example, if you have sequences from 3 different organisms: 1. AAAAAA 2. AAAAAT 3. AAAATT we can say that 3 is more related to 2 than to 1 because they are more similar (or alternatively, have less differences). 5.
