on the average a baseball team wins two out of every three games it plays, how many games will this team lose in a 162 game season

geerky42 (geerky42):

Just divide 162 by 3.

geerky42 (geerky42):

\[\underbrace{\dfrac{1}{3}\times162}_{\text{Anount of game lost}}+\underbrace{\dfrac{2}{3}\times162}_{\text{Amount of games won}}=\underbrace{162}_{\text{Total games}}\] Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (imstuck):

I used ratios and found the number of wins/total games played, then subtracted that number of wins from the total number of games to get the number of losses.
