Commission = 10% * x + 15% * Value Plug in those terms: 5,000 = 0.10 * x + 0.15 * 12,500 Simplify: Multiply 0.10 and x: 5,000 = 0.10x + 0.15 * 12,500 Multiply 0.15 and 12,500: 5000 = 0.10x + 1875 Subtract 0.10x to both sides: 5000 - 0.10x = 1875 Subtract 5000 to both sides: -0.10x = -3125 Divide -0.10 to both sides: x = 31,250
