Mr. Stevens bought small and large paintings for his new home. The small paintings cost $8 each and the large paintings cost $23.50 each. He spent a total of $196.50 on the paintings. He bought 7 large paintings. How many small paintings did Mr. Stevens buy?

Small Paintings: $8.00 ea. Large Paintings: $23.50 ea. Total Spent: $196.50 He bought 7 large paintings. Large paintings cost $23.50 each. 23.5 * 7 = $164.50 spent on large paintings. Subtract this from the total he spent(196.5): 196.5 - 164.5 = $32.00 spent on small paintings.
