Mr. Stevens bought small and large paintings for his new home. The small paintings cost $8 each and the large paintings cost $23.50 each. He spent a total of $196.50 on the paintings. He bought 7 large paintings. How many small paintings did Mr. Stevens buy?

Small paintings = $8.00 Large Paintings = $23.50 Total money spent = $196.50 Bought 7 Large Paintings. 7 * 23.5 = $164.50 spent on large paintings. Subtract this by the total to see how much he spent on small paintings: 196.5 - 164.5 = $32.00
