given f(x)=3x^6, find f^-1(x). then state whether f^-1(x) is a function.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well the function can be written as \[y = 3x^6\] to find the inverse... swap x and y \[x = 3y^6\] to find the inverse... make y the subject

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@campbell_st is my answer y=(x/3)^1/6;f^-1(x) is not afunction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry not 1/6 i meant 6

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

thats correct.... to make it a function you need to restrict the domain... to x >= 0 or x <= 0

thanks a bunch!
