What was the immediate reason that caused US secretary of state William Jennings Bryan to resign in June 1915

After the sinking of the Lusitania, many Americans on the East Coast especially called for war and were furious. Wilson tried to settle the dispute peacefully before forcing the disunited nation into war, so he tried to hold the Germans accountable for their deed. However, his Secretary of State, William Jennings Bryan, wasn't pleased with this proclamation and resigned, fearing that the proclamation might spell war for the nation. Wilson responded to Bryans' resignation by claiming "There is such a thing as a man being too proud to fight".
