"Choose one author from the early American and Colonial period. Identify what he or she wrote and describe his or her purpose, audience, and style." I know there's William Bradford, Captain John Smith, Anne Bradstreet, Olaudah Equiano, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, ect.

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

Have you researched about her?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not a lot but like I know a bit about her...

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

Hm what is one of her works that she wrote?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

her first book was The Tenth Muse Lately Sprung Up in America

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

Ive never read that but can you summarize it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I found this talking about her.. The first published book of poems by an American was also the first American book to be published by a woman – Anne Bradstreet. It is not surprising that the book was published in England, given the lack of printing presses in the early years of the first American colonies. Born and educated in England, Anne Bradstreet was the daughter of an earl's estate manager. She preferred her long, religious poems on conventional subjects such as the seasons, but contemporary readers most enjoy the witty poems on subjects from daily life and her warm and loving poems to her husband and children. She was inspired by English metaphysical poetry, and her book The Tenth Muse Lately Sprung Up in America (1650) shows the influence of Edmund Spenser, Philip Sidney, and other English poets as well. She often uses elaborate conceits or extended metaphors.

This part can be used as style and a bit of her audience but you need to learn about her purpose

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so how would i learn more about the purpose?

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

Well what was going on during her time?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe that her main purpose in writing this poem was not for the entertainment of readers, but for her to escape the oppression of women..

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

There you have a purpose then :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks so would this do: Anne Bradstreet, her first book was The Tenth Muse Lately Sprung Up in America. I believe that her main purpose in writing poetry was not for the entertainment of readers, but for her to escape the oppression of women that was happening in that time. She preferred her long, religious poems on conventional subjects such as the seasons, but contemporary readers most enjoy the witty poems on subjects from daily life and her warm and loving poems to her husband and children.

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

You should not copy that word for word the ending though..
