What is the quadratic function that is created with roots -3 and 1 and a vertex at (-1, -8)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wanna guess?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i guess not then start with \[y=a(x+3)(x-1)\] put \(x=-1,y=-8\) and solve \[-8=a(-1+3)(-1-1)\] for \(a\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so a=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i think so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-8=2(-1+3)(-1-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

matter of fact i am sure of it we can do it a different way if you like

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you got it, \(a=2\) and you have \[y=2(x+3)(x-1)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay! thanks so much again
