Yes. The answer is D. Work is defined as a force acting over a distance. Simple machines are a way to make us exert a certain amount of effort, but get more out of that effort. A. Doesn't make any sense. The machine isn't adding energy. B. This would be contradictory. It's supposed to make things easier, not harder C. Reducing the speed something happens has no effect on the work done. (W = F * d) doesn't contain speed.
