I'm not sure if you can solve this with this hint, but the time taken to move upwards to the max height and the time taken from the max height to return to the player are equal (t / 2).

\[v =v _{0}+at\] use that. and the fact that when v=0 t=3.16/2 and a=g. simplify to find v initial. i think this is the right way to do it.
