I NEED MATH HELP!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please show how to solve it

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

First divide both sides by 3 to get |4x-7| = 5 then you break up that equation to get these two equations: 4x-7 = 5 or 4x-7 = -5

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what do you get when you solve 4x-7 = 5 for x ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First you have to dive both sides by 3. 3/3 | 4x - 7 | = 15/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

obviously for that you should've gotten 1 and 5. 1 | 4x - 7 | = 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which is the same as | 4x - 7 | = 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then you start actually solving the problem by having to add the opposites which is by adding +7 to both sides of the equation ( -7 + 7) and (5 +7)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

from this you obviously get 0 from adding -7 + 7 and you get 12 from adding 5 + 7. 4x = 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to divide 4 from each side now so that you can get rid of the number in front of the 4. 4x/4 = x 12/4 = 3 x = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but remember you also have to find the second answer to this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so we can start off at | 4x - 7| = -5 (because now we have to change it to a negative 5 instead of a positive 5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4x - 7 = -5 and then we do the same steps

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4x - 7 = -5 +7 +7 4x = 2 4x/4 2/4 4x/4 = x 2/4 = .5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so your final answers are: 3, .5 which i believe was B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep it was B. so there you go. your welcome.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you're*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wow thank you soooooo much. Thank you for mapping it out for me!!! It's MUCH easier to understand.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:) no problem. so you understand how i got the answer?
