OpenStudy (anonymous):
A ridge is a separation in the sea-floor. This allows magma from the mantle to move upwards and cool along the ridge. As magma flows upwards and cools, material already on the ridge moves away from the opening. As a consequence, the age of the oceanic crust as distance increases would also increase.
