ffind the equation of the tangent to the parabola which is parallel to y+x=5

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

so what is the equation of the parabola..? the line given is y = -x + 5 so the slope is m = -1 so find the 1st derivative of the parabola. Let it equal -1. then solve for x. This will give the x, value of the point on the parabola. Substitute the x value to get the corresponding y value so you have an ordered pair (x, y) you know m = -1 so use the point slope formula to find the equation of the tangent. hope it helps
