4 - (x + 2) < - 3 ( x + 4) --- distribute through the parenthesis 4 - x - 2 < -3x - 12 -- combine like terms 2 - x < -3x - 12 --- add 3x to both sides 2 + 3x - x < -12 -- subtract 2 from both sides 3x - x < -12 - 2 -- combine like terms 2x < - 14 -- divide both sides by 2 x < - 7
