discribe the production of protein molecules through transcription and translation
1. start out with DNA in the nucleus of the cell. its double stranded in eukaryotes. 2. DNA molecule unzips forming two templates of DNA. 3. RNA polymerase attaches itself to a template of DNA and via base pairing, synthesizes mRNA from the 5'to 3' direction. This is called transcription, think of this as the DNA code being transcribed into mRNA code. RNA replaces Thymine for Uracil during base pairing. 4. mRNA leaves the nucleus and enters the cytoplasm where ribosomes can be found 5. Ribosomes are involved in protein synthesis, aka they make proteins 6. mRNA attaches one end of itself to a ribosome, and via codons, tRNA brings in amino acids and attaches them together to form a specific protein polymer. Codons code for amino acids, and are triplets of code. (I'm simplifying all this a lot) 7. This process above is called translation. Think of it as the mRNA code is being translated to form proteins. rRNA is just ribosomal RNA
how could that be summerized?
