Which of the following options is not a purpose of transitions? a. improve “flow” of the speech b. introduce subpoints c. establish a connection with audience d. draw attention back to the speech
There are hundreds of transitions that we can use and each one has a different purpose. Lets say we have a sentence that goes "Furthermore, this is why I believe that dogs are cooler than cats". In this case the word furthermore (our transition word) is not only "A: improving the flow of a sentence" (without it it would be; This is why I believe that dogs are cooler than cats, which is just short and pretty lame sounding) but it is also referring back to the paragraph that we're going to pretend we wrote that came before it where we listed a bunch of reasons why we think dogs are cooler than cats, which would account for D and B. So I think the best answer would be C. :) And if it still doesnt make a lot of sense heres a cool website that shows what transitions you can use to do different things. http://www.elc.byu.edu/classes/buck/w_garden/classes/buck/transitions.html
Cool thanks.
