i can't seem to figure this out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can't figure what out?

OpenStudy (happpily):

\[|-4b - 8| + |-1 - b^2| + 2b^3 ;b = -2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, I have no idea how to do that or even what that means, sorry. I hope someone can help you to understand.

OpenStudy (happpily):

oh it's okay, thanks anyways ^.^

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Everywhere you see a 'b', replace it with -2 and evaluate \[\Large |-4b - 8| + |-1 - b^2| + 2b^3\] \[\Large |-4(-2) - 8| + |-1 - (-2)^2| + 2(-2)^3\] \[\Large |-4(-2) - 8| + |-1 - 4| + 2(-8)\] \[\Large |8 - 8| + |-1 - 4| - 16\] \[\Large |0| + |-5| - 16\] \[\Large 0 + 5 - 16\] \[\Large -11\] ------------------------------------------------------- So, \[\Large |-4b - 8| + |-1 - b^2| + 2b^3 = -11\] when b = -2

OpenStudy (happpily):

wow thank you so much.
