If l is parallel to m, m<4=15x-7, m<6=20x+12, then m<8=?? Diagram attached below.

OpenStudy (fanduekisses):

Do you see any relation between m<4 and m<6 ?

OpenStudy (fanduekisses):

look at the diagram

OpenStudy (anonymous):

same side angles that are equal; correct?

OpenStudy (fanduekisses):

Nope

OpenStudy (fanduekisses):

m<4 and m<7 are equal however

OpenStudy (fanduekisses):

Do you know what supplementary angles are?

OpenStudy (fanduekisses):

Two angles that add up to 180 degrees, so if m<4 and m<7 are equal, and you know that m<7 + m<6 = 180 (look at the diagram)

OpenStudy (fanduekisses):

You are given what m<6 equals

OpenStudy (fanduekisses):

and what m<4 equals

OpenStudy (fanduekisses):

So 15x-7 + 20x +12 = 180

OpenStudy (fanduekisses):

Add like terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh

OpenStudy (fanduekisses):

Solve for x

OpenStudy (fanduekisses):

then look at the diagram, angle 6 and angle 8 are vertical angles, vertical angles have the same measurements!

OpenStudy (fanduekisses):

So once you know what x equals, simply plug that into the equation for the m<6, and that is what m<8 equals! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

gotcha

OpenStudy (fanduekisses):

;)

thanx
