What do you need help with?
The boxplots show data gathered from asking 300 buyers of BMWs how old they were at the time of purchase. Answer each question, and explain your reasoning for your answers. 1. Which data set has the largest median? 2. Which data set has the largest range? 3. Which data set has the largest interquartile range? 4. Which data set might contain an outlier? 5. Which data set appears most skewed, and how is it skewed
The data set with the largest median is the 7 series as it has the highest second quartile which is the median. The data set with the largest range is the 3 series as its largest value minus its smallest value is larger than the others. The interquartile range (IQR) is calculated by subtracting quartile 1 from 3, ie. Q3-Q1. The first box plot appears to have an IQR of around 10, the second around 15 and the third around 18. So the third box plot has the largest IQR. The first data set has its highest value quite far away from the majority of its data points and so it most likely contains an outlier. The second data set appears most skewed as its median is closest to the left of the box plot, meaning that the majority of the data is skewed to the left. The points on the left are more clumped than on the right.
