I feel like there should be more to that; does that equation = something?

OH 3 - 2x = -5

3 - 2x = -5 8 = 2x x =4 Posted in the wrong section though :P

Isolate the x's on one side of the equation

so like 3 - 2 -5

Remember the signs change (positive to negative, or negative to positive) when you move something across the equals sign
