A scientist is studying a unicellular organism. The organism normally looks like image A. Then the scientist places the cell in two different solutions. In the first solution, the cell changes to look like image B. In the second solution, it changes to look like image C. Which process describes these changes? A. mitosis B. osmosis C. cytokinesis D. photosynthesis http://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/925000_925500/925231/1/1f996ba69ada0f34f15ca099f8249cd11e40e110/MHS_LIF_02_14_Q02.jpg

The small circles represent molecules of oxygen. Which best describes how the oxygen molecules will move during diffusion? A. Oxygen will diffuse from an area of lower concentration (outside the cell) to an area of higher concentration (inside the cell). B. Oxygen will diffuse from an area of lower concentration (inside the cell) to an area of higher concentration (outside the cell). C. Oxygen will diffuse from an area of higher concentration (outside the cell) to an area of lower concentration (inside the cell). D. Oxygen will diffuse from an area of higher concentration (inside the cell) to an area of lower concentration (outside the cell).

I think it the answers are C and D but I am not sure

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

i think it is A

OpenStudy (aaronq):

For the first one, it's osmosis. When you place a cell in a solution that has LESS solute than the cell's cytoplasm (hypotonic), water will flow inwards to try to balance the solute concentrations on both sides of the plasma membrane - the cell will get bigger and may burst. In contrast, when you place the cell in a solution with MORE solute than the cell's cytoplasm (hypertonic), water will flow out from the cell into the solution, this will cause the cell to shrink.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

nope the answer for the first one is B.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

For the second, in the image you can tell that there are more \(O_2\) molecules inside the cell than outside. Diffusion always occurs from higher to lower concentrations. So molecules will flow from inside the cell to the outside - in these conditions.

Ya >.> So for the latter one its C
