I need to write an authors evaluation on this article. How can i start a thesis statement with a quote?

I would not use a quote in your thesis statement. Your thesis statement should be a sentence summarizing what you will be talking about in your evaluation. If you wanted to use a quote, it should be before or after the thesis statement in the first paragraph of your analysis.
