Write an equation of the line that is perpendicular to y =1/2x + 3 and passes through the point (10, -5).

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Hey glitter lady :) So we're constructing a line:\[\Large\rm y=mx+b\]The slope of this line will be `perpendicular` to the given line. `Perpendicular` means our slope will be the `negative reciprocal` of the given slope.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

\[\Large\rm y=-\frac{2}{1}x+b\]Which we can write as:\[\Large\rm y=-2x+b\]And then to find your new y-intercept, plug in the point which was given, and solve for b.
