Why were the election results for Florida so critical in the 2000 election? Florida had 25 popular votes, and it would determine the winner of the presidency. Florida had 25 electoral votes, and it would determine the winner of the presidency. Florida has mostly Democrat voters, so it was guaranteed to vote for Al Gore. Florida has mostly Republican voters, so it was guaranteed to vote for George Bush.
