Convert 3.5 ⋅ 10 to the power of 4 to standard form.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

35,000 3,500 0.00035 0.000035

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

3.5*10^4?

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

Is that correct the equation you are trying to say?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes!

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

Okay -- first thing to do is PEMDAS, or order of operations. 10^4. We know that if we are using exponents with a ten it will ALWAYS the number of zeros the number it's being raised to -- so the answer is 10,000. Ten thousand. Now multiply 10,000*3.5 to find the correct answer :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its 35000?

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

Yep -- I agree with that answer.

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

Nice work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you. it seems so easy now that you broke it down

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

:~)
