Will medal and fan! Which equation can be used to solve the problem? How many 12-packs of juice boxes contain a total of 84 juice boxes? A. 12 + b = 84 B. 12 ÷ b = 84 C. 12b = 84 D. b ÷ 12 = 84

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you have some number, b, groups of the packs of 12 juice boxes. So we have b groups of 12 boxes or 12 times b. We know what we want this to equal, 84, so we need to have what we don't know yet, b, by itself. So our equation starts of as \[12b=84\] and \[b=84/12\]

I was wondering how to explain this without just doing it. ilr1...that was a good explanation :)

So it's C?

I know this girl should become a mathlete

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

anybody on this site can become a mathlete if they put their mind to it. Oh, and yes...the answer is C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Remember, if we want to take 'something' that is multiplied by 'something else', and just get that 'something', we divide by 'something else.' And if we want a certain number of things, we want to have that number of groups, each with one of those things.

Thank you ^_^ I will write that in my math notes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep, and write down that addition is the opposite of subtraction, vice versa, and multiplication is the opposite of division, vice versa. This means that one 'undoes' the other. If you're curious, the word for this is "inverse." Multiplication is the inverse of division.
