Well the thing is, it feels as if Ill have to use "I" but I've been told to not do that, it is kinda hard to take a stand if I don't go personal no?

Actually using I makes your essay weak. We already know your standpoint. We want to know why. So instead of saying something like "my favorite color is blue because" use "blue is the best color in the world." It states what you are saying without using I. And then use examples to explain why.
