The width of a rectangle is 6 in. less than its length. The perimeter is 68 in. What is the width of the rectangle? (In inches.)

sammixboo (sammixboo):

|dw:1412730193827:dw| Since 'perimeter' means the measure around the shape, we got to find out what the other sides are

sammixboo (sammixboo):

So pretty much (a little shortcut I always do) is take \(\sf \large \color{magenta}{6~+~6}\) then take the answer to that, and subtract it with 68

sammixboo (sammixboo):

And then after that you divide that answer by 2

sammixboo (sammixboo):

\(\sf \large \color{magenta}{6~+~6~=~b}\) \(\sf \large \color{magenta}{68~-~b~=~c}\) \(\sf \large \color{magenta}{c\backslash2~=~}\color{black}{your~answer}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay then: 6+6+28+28=68 68=68 the answer would be 28.

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Mmmhmm |dw:1412730610025:dw|

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Wait hold on a second O:

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Nvm

sammixboo (sammixboo):

I made a typo in my calculator xD
