Over the course of history, human governments repeatedly have chosen to place power in the hands of a single person. In our lesson, we discussed the qualities of absolute and constitutional monarchies.

Yeah. So in this case, it'd be the latter, because the British kind isn't a true monarchy. So, your stance is a no. We can work with that.

Because while const. mons are mentioned, power doesn't often lie with them. Modern example: Britain. The queen has to agree with Parliament, or she'll be removed. So while you could argue in favor of monarchies, if you want to use democracy, then you need to oppose them, in their truest sense.

Because, if there are monarchies, and all of the power lies with the monarch - remember, this really doesn't happen in const. mons - then the monarch is the only one making decisions. If he has no one to check him or her, then why would he bother doing anything anyone else wants? In democracies, there are often checks and balances in place to prevent any one group from gaining too much power, and the very core of democracy is that the people get a say in the laws that govern them. With a monarch, the king will only listen if he feels like it or if he agrees with whatever is being said; there's nothing forcing him to do so. Understand?
