How did the Marbury v. Madison decision change the balance of power between the three branches of government?

OpenStudy (andrewkaiser333):

The term "checks and balances" refers to the distribution of power among the three branches of the federal government -- Congress, the President, and the federal courts. Each branch is supposed to check or limit the other branches so that no one branch becomes too powerful. The Marbury v. Madison decision established the power of the Supreme Court to check the power of Congress by declaring that a law passed by Congress is unconstitutional and therefore invalid.
