yes the above is correct. So in these problems, you're working towards isolating the x. so distribute first.. 4(x+2) and that gives you 4x+8 now put them equal.. 5x-3=4x+8 from here, combine like terms. it's easier to work with positives, so subtract 4x from both sides. x-3=8 now, isolate the x to do so, add 3 to each side -3+3=0 and 8+3=11 voila! x=11 :)
