move -4.1 to the other side by addition to get your answer.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
isolate x by adding 4.1 to both sides. the number you get from doing that is your answer.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
just add 4.1
-8.6 + 4.1 (which is the same thing as -8.6 - -4.1)
to simplify, ignore the signs (for the moment) and subtract the smaller number from the bigger. then assign the sign of the bigger number to the answer.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you can always check the answer:
try x= -4.5 in the problem
