In Elizabeth Baines' "Compass and Torch," what is significant about the compasses? Answer The boy's is surprisingly of much better quality than his father's. The father's is a real compass, but the boy's is only a toy. They both forget to bring one. They each show a different direction for north.

I'd love to help x-x but I haven't read the story yet - but like common literature... I'd assume that the 'compass' is symbolizing something important in the story.. maybe the theme? or the important morals suggested by the story?
