One early and divisive difference was how they approached Britain & France. They were extremely different in thought & status.

Well considering that Hamilton wanted the President to have a life-time term and didn't care much for the whole Bill of Rights thing, I would say the Democratic-Republicans wanted to limit executive branch power more than the Federalists.
