Whats the area of this triangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know the length of the sides, what else do i need?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/2 x b x h = A but which side is the base and which one is the height

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry if thats a stupid question

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

notice something teh points (-5, 5) and (10,10) that indicates a line y = x |dw:1412890138681:dw| so that means that those 2 lines are perpendicular to one another so is a right triangle you could picke either of the "non-slanted" lines as base if you wish, and the other will become the height, and the formula will work just the same

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 1/2 x AC x AB would be fine?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exactly, as shown above it is a right triangle (one 90 degree angle), you can pick which is the "base" and "height" . so if you know the lengths of AC and AB, you just use that formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i know the lengths, thank you!! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and the answer is 50, just so you can check yourself

OpenStudy (anonymous):

aha! thanks!
