y = 0.038 x^2 - 2.6 x + 62.51 models the number of deaths per year per thousand people, y, for people who are x years old, 40 <= x <= 60. Approximately how many people per thousand who are 56 years old die each year? For the purposes of this problem, please round your answer to a whole number.

OpenStudy (aum):

Put x = 56 in y = 0.038 x^2 - 2.6 x + 62.51and calculate y.

I got that, but then I get stuck solving for X with the X and X^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait im putting 56 in for the x's?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and solving the y?

OpenStudy (aum):

Not sure what you mean. You don't have to solve for x. Just substitute x = 56 and calculate y.

Got it! Thanks, had a brain fart :P
